The FRC TOP 50 Rating is produced by the TOP 50 Engine, a proprietary multi-factor system developed over several seasons of continuous refinement. The Rating is expressed on a scale in which higher is better and differences are meaningful.
the TOP 50 Engine evaluates each team across more than 40 signals, grouped into several families. Signals are combined using a non-linear weighting scheme with temporal decay, so that recent performance is reflected without discarding a team's longer record. Weights are recalibrated periodically and are not published.
Ratings are not predictions. A higher Rating does not guarantee that a team will win any particular match, event, or award. Ratings are best understood as a summary of overall standing at the time of publication.
Teams are assigned to a Class according to their position in the rankings. Classes are determined after Ratings are finalized and have no effect on them.
Class A: ranks 1-5
Class B: ranks 6-20
Class C: ranks 21-50
The ranking is reviewed before each publication. Full methodology is available upon request.
